Groundbreaking New Books for Young Adults: DO NOT WATCH THE FILM FIRST (plu-eez)
Lois Lowry has made a classic series with her four books in this series. Along the lines of books like 1984, Brave New World, Ray Bradbury's Invisible Man and Other Stories, etc, the series takes on a similar but different world--actually a set of worlds within one.To go on and on about it would be redundant. My only beef was that we didn't have the chance to get this boxed set with the most newly released book, Son (the final book in the series).Lowry is now our favorite author in this house, and we're excited to read more of her young adult works--even if these MAY be her true master works for now. Few authors have the compass and flexibility to create and explore these multiple worlds within a world. She avoids the heavy-handed didactic pitfalls, which is a tough thing to do.

The Giver
Read the Giver last night in 2.5 hours...I could not put it down! Lois has a great knack for bringing her words to life. I imagined everything and it made me wish there was a movie about it. (maybe there is and i just dont kow). Will start Gathering Blue tonight and although I know it will not be as good, I am excited to finish the Trilogy. The Giver is a MUST read!

Magic
I first read Gathering Blue in the fourth or fifth grade and I remember being struck by the beautiful imagery and the world that the author (Lois Lowry) created. I still remember the worlds that were created before my eyes by Lowry, the magic of it all. I am buying this series for my baby sister, in the sixth grade. She hates reading, a lot like I hated reading, but I hope if she reads one of Lowry's books she will see the magic of it all. The magic created in the world of books.

Made my 14 year old son want to read!
Although I haven't read these books, I plan to. My 14 year old son, who NEVER reads, read all three books in 4 days! He couldn't put them down. He even asked my to buy him the 4th book, Son, in the series! He was required to read The Giver in school which got him hooked. I will be buying him other books by Lois Lowry.

Awesome
I had to read the Giver for school, and I didn't want to let them have it back because it was such a good book. I bought this to have the other books and made me very happy. Just like the Giver, Gathering Blue and messenger leave lots of loose ends hanging. If you buy this, buy the new installment, Son too.

Very good, short series
Read The Giver when I was a kid. Did not know that it was a series. When I found that out I knew I had to read the rest of the series. Nice and easy to read.

Incredible series at a great price!
What can I say? Lois Lowry is a brilliant author. This series is just massive and incredible. You should not miss it. The only thing that could possibly make it better was if the final book in the series, Son, were included, but the boxed set came out before the final book.

Great series for 12/13 yrs and up
Came really fast, the books were in perfect condition, the book set sleeve only had light wear (which was the quality level I selected for a lower price so that's exactly what I wanted)I love this series and I'm so excited to finally own it, I was pleasantly surprised by how new the books look and feel. Thank you! 😊

On my favorite book list
You have to read THE GIVER. I know it is used in the elementary schools- not sure why. It is adult reading. I bought the set to read more. Her books are all wonderful but this one is outstanding

The Giver, Gathering Blue and Messenger
Well written and thought provoking. These books explore extremely mature themes in a manner that is easy to comprehend for pre-teens.overall: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

The giver is a masterpiece.
The giver was my favourite book in the set. Gathering blue was the weakest one from my point of view, but still a decent read. Messenger was a very good one, as a lot of things are discovered, but The Giver is just a work of art.
