Good tool for Dana 44 axle, but the red heatshrink on shaft became swollen due to the gear oil
I used this tool to release/lock the carrier bearing retainers in the Nissan Dana 44 rear axle. I changed the gearing myself and thought you needed this tool to loosen/tighten the retainers, but Spicer was nice enough to put holes in the retainers (to use a punch or similar tool to rotate them) without needing this tool. But this tool does fit the carrier bearing retainers.The manufacturer put red heat shrink near the end of the tool, am unsure if it is used for gripping purposes, or for easily identifying the tool in the garage, etc. But the red heat shrink became very swollen when touched with gear oil. I had to slide it off.
