well paced action
A well-paced suspenseful political thriller. There were no lulls in this story. The action, that never seemed to stop, ratcheted up as it moved toward a suspenseful climax. Loved the use of Russian language - felt like that really brought those character's to life in a compelling way.If you enjoy this genre, political thriller/spy novel, you'll enjoy taking this journey with Jack Steele. I look forward to the next installment.

Unbelievably…..believable!
Compelling story—-once started, I read it to the end (4:30AM)! What an opening scene! Anyone who reads through it will be “hooked” into the book, and Mr. Lyntton successfully reels us into the rest of the book! I happened to have read the 2nd book in the series (“Hyde Park Deception”) in before this book, and was glad I did, as this book refers to a few incidents in “Hyde Park”, which gives perspective into the timeline of Jack Steel’s life. As in “Hyde Park”, I found the characters and plot to be well-developed, and seemingly perfect for easy translation into movie/TV series. Events move along as expected, until suddenly …they don’t! The descriptions of locations are realistic, reflecting, I suspect, the author’s actual experiencing of them. The importance of international cooperation in maintaining peace is again depicted. What is particularly disturbing is the sense that the actions of the men in key positions in governments is not only possible, but in fact have/are happening—if not in these specific areas of international concern, in others that are just as significant. How easy it is to hoodwink the populace into believing whatever the powers-that-be want them to believe is clearly seen in the events of the last few years, whether in the US or in overtly fascist states. A geopolitical thriller—yes, the book is that. An action-packed, adrenaline rush—ABSOLUTLEY! But, on a more thoughtful level, a warning to be willing to look more deeply at events than what the state wants it’s people to see. To be willing to listen to and read what naysayers, deep thinkers, scientists and objective scholars are saying about significant points in our history.

A Refreshing Choice of Settings and Story by an Author Talented Enough to Handle Both
British journalist, Jack Steele, hopes to meet is contact, Natasha Klimova, at the Amur River. He is instead captured near the North Korean border! In a nicely done twist, one of many by Richard Lyntton, Natasha does meet up with Steele, but she too (adding to this great plot) is being chased! To add more complication, the head of MI6, blocking a move by Steele that could "gum up" a much desired political play with Russia, is gunning for Steel. When Steele learns of a play by Americans to destroy the Youngtuk reactor, he must warn the community--and save them. Can he? Author Lyntton knows how to raise the stakes and stretch the tension throughout "North Korea Deception." I'm up for book II, "Hyde Park Deception," and I've got it ordered.

Epic geopolitical page turner!
North Korea Deception keeps you on the edge of your seat with compelling character development and plot twists and turns. I couldn't put it down and kept rationalizating to myself that "I'll just read one more chapter."The lead character Jack Steele is flawed, heroic and has real depth. Other supporting characters are equally compelling. The initially, seemingly disjointed characters come together quickly and wonderfully in a delightfully intricate plot. Such vivid detail, fantastic banter and inner thoughts of the main character Steele.Read this book if this is your genre'. A new Le Carré for 2021.

Complex intrigue
I read this in one sitting. Lyntton has hit many of the right marks for a political thriller and on a debut, I give it five stars. The triple crossing of the players was a little hard to grasp, but the action and pace got me over that. There were a couple of deus ex machina turns that might have been made unnecessary by deeper exploration of the characters. Going in that direction in the future installments will make the series great.

An ambitious, entertaining political thriller!
This high-stake plot takes Jack Steele, former British army officer, now investigatory journalist into the deep far east where few dare to venture.Conspiracy, double-cross and too many lives at stake push Jack to take always more risk. Our hero will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and help the vulnerable even if it means paying the ultimate price. He is about to expose the most destructive and far-reaching plot involving London, Moscow, Washington, and Pyongyang… Will he live long enough to succeed?

Intriguing, Exciting and Entertaining
Debut novelist Richard Lyntton is a former Army officer, and he writes of what he knows. Which is to say his thriller drips with authenticity and the small 'killer details' that always bring a compelling story to life. It's an ambitious, big canvas story set against a global background of intrigue, conspiracy, double-cross upon double-cross, with a growing number of lives at stake - some saved, some perished - as the chapters unfold. The action swings at breakneck speed between Moscow, London, Vladivostok, Pyongyang, and places in-between as the stakes climb higher and higher. And hero Jack Steele's mission proves ultimately that the pen can, indeed, be mightier than the sword.Recommended, and I look forward to seeing what this author does next.

An original and thrilling plot.
At a time when so many good thrillers are based on similar themes, it was great to find a book with an original, yet credible plot. This was a most satisfying read, especially if you ignored how much of the book remained. You keep thinking the action has reached a climax, only to find there’s more to come.Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thank you. I’m straight onto the next one!

Nail-biting, pacy thriller that takes you deep into far eastern Russia and North Korea
Great page-turner that grips you from the start. The author seems to draw a lot on his own background and conjures up menacing atmospheres and human feelings extremely well - I could feel the icy cold of Russia and North Korea and sense the anxiety of a reporter who finds himself wildly out of his depth. Many aspects seem to draw on personal past history and many made me wonder how the author did his research. The scenes about British and American officialdom have a touch of Le Carre about them. The fact that the London scenes are set in Hampstead had added interest for me as I know the street where some of the action took place and will not see it in the same way again. Highly recommend this chilling, action-packed thriller.

Highly recommended!
If you love international political intrigue North Korea Deception hits the mark. A hint of le Carre? Mr. Lyntton’s astonishingly brilliant first venture in to this genre caught me by surprise. I literally have been unable to put this book down. A labyrinth of glorious technicolour on every page that will keep you gripped right until the final twist in the tale... a bit like being on a rollercoaster that never seems to end! A lot of fun!Highly recommend and worthy of the full 5 stars.
