My son loves to read now!
When my son started the 2nd grade he hated having to read and saw it as nothing more than a chore and it was a fight to get him to do it. When seeing the books they were reading, I could completely understand why. I made various attempts to show him reading was fun and still it was just a chore to him and he'd constantly act like he couldn't read as well as he could to get out of having to read... until I started buying him the Diary of a wimpy kid series. He now has a greater love for reading and understanding that it can be fun and enjoyable. He went from complaining every time he had to read for class to being happy to do so and reads proficiently above grade level. He also likes discussing the books with me and telling me about what is happening. He is always very eager to get the next book in the series (and I have found amazon to have great prices on them) and has a very great sense of accomplishment when he finishes each book. The fact that this series has given my son joy in reading has been invaluable.

Not as Good as I Originally Thought
Written by my teenaged son, approved by me:The first three "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books were great fun to read. They weren't too sad, but not too bright and cheerful, either. They were a brilliant satire on modern suburban life, and coupled with a multitude of whacky situations, they were an instant hit. But this book doesn't fit the mold. Especially not after it seriously damaged the hopes and dreams of everyone who was looking forward to it... me included.Story: 8/10 - Unlike other books in this series, which at least had some bright spots for our hero, and were exceptionally funny, this is not - its story, which is about Greg's summer vacation, does not favor our hero in the least, and puts him through trial after trial while crushing his spirit, his friendships, and his love life; Trista's rejection was almost brutal!Humor: 8/10 - This book mostly favors a heavy dose of schadenfreude, plenty of physical humor, and a hint of irony, whereas most other books in the series favored some schadenfreude, some irony, and some physical humor, not throwing the balance out of whack for any of them. Especially sad is the number of deaths in the book - and they aren't even funny.Characters: 8/10 - This book barely introduces any new characters, and downplays the roles of many significant ones (Holly is practically nonexistant, and Fregley barely appears at all). Instead, it focuses on dumping everything on the one main hero, Greg, which is sad, because he could have used some more friends.Entertainment: 8/10 - This book will, admittedly, make you want to read it over and over again, but it still lacks things which made the other books great. Shame, really.Overall: 32/40 - This review, frankly, would have been much higher if the author had increased Trista's role, had Rodrick go on a band tour, and added in some bright spots for Greg instead of making him even more miserable. But it didn't, and that's that.

Rankings of the books and the funny moments in the book
I really like your books. You have a great sense of humor and are good at doing cartoons. The minute I got the 3rd book I just started laughing meaning I really liked the book. So I thought the books were so great that I chose to put them in rankings:1.#32.#43.#24.#1I also have the movie that I got in the summertime and Have the movie novel and the Do-It-Yourself book.I am so happy about the books and the type of books they are.The only items left by you that I so want is the movie soundtrack, book #5 The Ugly Truth. Thank you so much for writing these books. More books by you I would really like. But if you can do that. The last thing I am going to tell is that I have also gotten into the Big Nate series. The 5th book sounds so RAD. Please write more books.

When They're Happy, So am I...
Thanks for allowing me to say a few words about Amazon and the things I order. Since I live at a distance from grandchildren and great grandchildren, when they want something "from Mama Len's Store" they give me a call. They have to tell me (1) Name of the book, (2) Where they learned about it (3) If it's a series... (*the same goes for dvds). One of the things I love about Amazon is that I can go look for what the kids (or my adult kids for that matter) have mentioned they'd like to have and put it in my basket. Then I work through that and never have to worry about what to get anyone. It works well for me, and Amazon has never deleted my basket items like so many other webstores do.My 8 year old grandson LOVES the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series. Thanks to them being color coordinated I was able to keep the books in sequence and he only received one of each. The down side is that he reads them in an evening! ha. He's now waiting for the movie...I've been ordering from Amazon about 4 or 5 years with this little system and I have yet to be disappointed. That bodes well in today's environment and rude store clerks!!Sincerely,The MammaTexas

My 2nd grader loves these books!
My eight year old son loves these books. He really enjoys them. Kids want to read if they like the book they are reading. He will finish one of these wimpy kid books in 3 or 4 days! A lot of times I have to tell him," time to go to bed and stop reading." He will read for an hour or more before he goes to bed. I would say these books are suited for a third grade reading level or 4th grade? My son has gone up two grade reading levels in 6 months. He is a second grader but is at the reading level of a 4th grader. It is true that 20 minutes or more of your child reading and then reading to them, will make them better readers. If they can read fast and comprehend the material, they will do so good in school as they get older.
