Easy recommend - surprising/unexecpted frame boost from this alone.
Coming from an aging i5-10600K, this thing has been transformative. Yes, it required a MB upgrade, but in CPU bound games (e.g. late-game Cosmoteer), this thing like 4x'ed my FPS. In PCVR (Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop), this also helped a bit, simply for the additional multi-threaded CPU overhead that comes with PCVR streaming (e.g. encode/decode passes, etc).I mostly got this to try and remove a bottleneck before an eventual upgrade from my 3090 to a 5090, but was pleasantly surprised to actually feel a nice boost in existing games - again, moreso on CPU-bottlenecked games.I can recommend, but the entire gaming industry has already done that for this chip (and the 7800X3D)... so this is just confirmation of what you already know.

Beastling of a gaming focused CPU
I'd been an Intel guy for several years, ending with the 14900K. And let me tell you while that chip walks all over this in terms of productivity, it has nothing on the gaming side compared to this little beastling. In most games (I own an RTX 5080) I've honestly gained on average 30fps alone. Some games more, some less all while it's using significantly less power. I'm now a believer and might just be sticking to AMD for the lifespan they're known for with platforms. All in all, this chip is crazy good if you're for the most part strictly a hardcore gamer that want's the max out of your system. You'll get it! Step it up Intel

Good CPU. Plz 870e dont fry it. Or is it the other way around???
hopefully my asrock 870e doesnt fry it. Honestly though I only got this because i wamted the best but the 9600x and 9700x are more than fadt enough paired with a high end GPU and Ram to play any game. I think the 9600x is actually really good. Lowest heat producer and Single Core speeds comparable to 9700 and faster than 9800x3d. if your looking to do huge overclocking i wouldnt recomend the 9800x3d. the boost clocks are capped at Plus 200 FYI

The VR & video powerhouse
When choosing a CPU for a high-end PCVR setup, this CPU is the most powerful one I could find without going over $500. It's an X3D chip with onboard shared L3 cache which is "critical" for VR and video-processing, but unlike the 9700X3D and 9750X3D that only have the X3D cache only over 'half' of the chips cores, the 9800 utilizes and has the X3D cache over all of its cores (just like the 5800X3D and 5700X3D). This eliminates the need for special instructions or configs with certain VR games and applications. This CPU is more intensive, pull more power, and may heat up more (thus require better cooling), but you won't be disppointed.

Elite performance for demanding gamers
AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D is undoubtedly one of the best gaming processors available in 2025. With 8 cores and 16 threads, and a base frequency of 4.7 GHz that can reach up to 5.2 GHz in boost mode, this CPU offers exceptional performance in demanding titles. The addition of second-generation 3D V-Cache technology, with 96 MB of L3 cache, significantly improves latency and power efficiency, even surpassing its predecessor, the 7800X3D.In benchmark tests, the 9800X3D demonstrated superior gaming performance, outperforming direct competitors like the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K by up to 25%. Furthermore, its power efficiency is remarkable, with an average consumption of 98.7W in games like Starfield, maintaining optimal temperatures thanks to its improved thermal design. Although its primary focus is gaming, it also offers improvements in productivity and content creation tasks, approaching the performance of higher-end CPUs.In short, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is worth every penny for those seeking the best in gaming performance and energy efficiency. Its combination of power, innovation, and stability makes it an outstanding choice for any gaming enthusiast.

Works Great!
Instantly made all of my games run smoother and the graphics are way crisper. So far this thing has handled everything I've thrown at it! Be aware that this runs HOT when it's under load.. (it's made to and says so on AMDs page, but still). Absolutely get a good quality AIO liquid cooler, it'll need it. I would also recommend undervolting as that does help with the temps and doesn't affect performance in any meaningful way, can actually improve it in some situations. As far as productivity stuff like video editing, office products, etc. this has been great! Even though it's not made for that stuff with gaming being the focus, it's handled all of it surprisingly well.
