Quick install and fixed my issue. JUNK BOLTS, reuse OEM bolts!
For years I was dealing with this surging power under slow acceleration and when you let off the gas it has a huge drop in rpm and sometimes would even die. I replaced all sorts of sensors with new NGK sensors trying to diagnose it. Thankfully I made some posts about this issue which is very common I’ve found out and got a response from a kind guy that said to unplug the egr valve and go for a test drive, if it stops the surging and dying that’s the issue. Thank the lord because it was because I love driving this truck and this issue had been ruining all the enjoyment of driving it and cruising so I left it unplugged so I could drive in the meantime and ordered this immediately. It was in perfect condition and I installed it quickly, take the coolant jug out for loads more room and I recommend kroil or wd40 or any penetrating oil at all on all the bolts but especially the exhaust tube bolts because they seize easy and will snap in a heartbeat otherwise without something to loosen it up. Popped the new one in with the new gaskets but NOT the bolts they’re junk and plugged it back up, and now I can get back to truly enjoying driving this truck!

Make sure you use the new parts included for sealing the connections to the block and exhaust.
Perfect fit for my 2008 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 Quad-Cab 4x4. Check engine light cleared in about 5 mins. 30 minute install including clean-up.

Defective out of the box
Defective. With how difficult it is to disassemble and install this part on my Jeep (GC 5.7L), it had better work the first time. The part was defective out of the box, causing a half dozen false error codes and requiring a tow as the vehicle was forced into limp-home mode. I did my due diligence with a voltmeter to test it before installing it. Within two days of installing it, it failed.I didnt return the part, because whats the point. After all was said and done, the EGR replacement ended up costing me about $350 (including the $30 or whatever for this part, and $50 for the new part). That does NOT include the labor to disassemble and reassemble to remove the part and replace it (Although it is MUCH faster the second time). I would have been MUCH better off with an OEM part originally.I own dorman shares, as I think it is an otherwise good company. But I will not be buying any critical engine parts from them again.

Solved! 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Code P0406 - Faulty EGR Valve
Had a local shop scan my 2006 Ram 1500 when the “check engine” light came on. It returned a faulty EGR code P0406. Ordered this Dorman replacement and received it the next day (Thanks, Amazon!)Watched a video on how to properly remove the old valve and install the new one. It must be torqued to factory specs to ensure proper operation. The task is a bit of a pain because these trucks sit pretty high, even though mine is just a 2x4, but it’s otherwise doable for the average shade tree mechanic. You’ll need a decent selection of sockets so you can pick the best ones for the job, as well as different extensions, a breaker bar, and a ratchet. I used a 1/4”-drive 8mm and a10mm. There’s a pulley kinda in the way so that’s why a good selection of sockets and extensions is a good idea.I did not need to use a penetrating fluid even though my truck has over 180k miles, but every situation is different. Just watch YouTube videos to learn how to remove, then install a new EGR valve and take your time. Working in a well lit area helps too.Anyway, I installed the Dorman EGR valve, started the truck, and the “check engine” light is off. Truck started right up and I’ve had no issues. I like the fact that this unit came with the correct gaskets and new bolts.Hope this helps.UPDATE: the unit gave up the ghost approximately two years after it was installed. Bought a Dodge part the second time around.

EASY TO PUT ON
EASY TO PUT ON. BEFORE I PUT THIS ON, I TOOK BOTH BATT. CABLES OFF FOR 1/2 AN HOUR OR MORE. WHEN I WAS DONE INSTALLING , I REHOOK THE BATT CABLES AND MY ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. GOOD DEAL .

Fixed the problem.
I am not a handy guy. I had a check engine light on and discovered this was the issue. Ordered the part and used youtube to learn how to install. Didn't take long at all to install and it fixed my issue.
