Yes, after it is open it must be refrigerated. By the way, it is a wonderful product which I happily buy throughout the year.

It's vegan. It's just maple syrup that's been heated, cooled, and whipped.

Q: what is the shelf life? Does it go bad?

Unopened, ours has lasted months just fine. Once opened it lasts at least a couple of months on the shelf, but use a clean knife or spreader in the jar. The only time we ever had to throw any out was one time when someone got crumbs and butter into the jar and those went bad. If it's stored in a warm place (kitchen counter in summer) you may have to stir it a little before spreading it, but it's still good. We like it on English muffins and crumpets, where it can melt into the holes. Yum!
